Amazon Discussion: Too Little or Too Much Acid?

Grace asked:
Thanks so much - just one question:
is a sour acidic stomach caused by too much acid production or too little?
Websites differ on this claim.

Kevin answered:
Sure.
Both. It depends on the person. Older people (65+) tend to be more at risk of
too little acid. Too much acid is very common, and the main result is heartburn
and some other issues.
In your case, it sounds like you have normal acid production. But, NSAIDs wear
down your stomach lining, which when healthy, gives you protection from the
normal, good acid.

So you likely (I am a software engineer, not a doctor) have a sensitivity to
your body's normal levels of acid. The goal for you should be just allowing time
for the stomach lining to heal, not necessarily reducing your acid levels.
Because my guess is you have neither low nor high acid, but a sensitivity to the
acid you have.
